Industry analysis CRON

Why this exists

Investment research should compound instead of reset.

A single company note can answer “is this stock interesting?” The industry analysis CRON is meant to answer a better question: what durable mental model does this industry teach that can improve the next analysis?

How it works

The workflow pushes each analysis through the same operating stack:

  1. Core business model — how the industry makes money, margin structure, capital intensity, and reinvestment needs.
  2. Hidden structure — what outsiders usually miss about the industry.
  3. Industry dynamics — competitors, suppliers, customers, substitutes, regulation, and disruption.
  4. Cyclicality — what drives the cycle: rates, capital flows, capacity lead times, commodity inputs, or demand shocks.
  5. Durability and moats — switching costs, scale economies, network effects, process power, brand, or cornered resources.
  6. Company case study — one U.S. company, including filings, transcripts, model outputs, and source checks.
  7. Lattice output — reusable takeaways and lollapalooza effects that can transfer to future industries.
  8. Public translation — blogify the useful public version and publish it through Knowledge OS.

Output shape

Each finished analysis should produce:

  • a public-facing blog post that explains the why and the mental model
  • a more detailed research note for facts, evidence, and caveats
  • a set of reusable lenses for future company work

Status

The operating loop is live and remains one of the three curated Knowledge OS Projects. The June 2026 refresh renamed it from a generic “engine” to a CRON-backed operating system to match how the site is actually maintained.
